| | | MESSAGE: | Florian, babe? If you're out there, I want you to know that I am very sad about your departure. It's like Boris Blank leaving Yello. I wish you all the best in all to come, be it in future projects or your complete retirement, however... if you choose to continue with music, I have but one request..... bust out the flute again! : D |

| | | MESSAGE: | I've been a Kraftwerk fan for almost 4 years now.
I stumbled across Kraftwerk when I was 17 when my friend accidentally dowloaded "The Robots" video.
They grew on me like a cancer. I saw them live in Toronto during their 2004 World Tour; it was a life-changing experience.
This site is awesome!!!
I only hope I can see them live again. |

I first started listening to Kraftwerk a year ago (and found out what I had been missing all along).
I believe it's safe to say that this site has -really- turned me into a KW freak, with all its crazy trivia, interviews and even a comics/fanart section (SO amusing!!! :D).
Keep werking, guys!

| | | MESSAGE: | Hi!
Thanks for this great web site.
Used to have most of their albums on vinyl but couldn't play them anymore. Purchased all these albums on CD and got "werked up" again. The Min-Max album shows again why they have such a great influence on the Synthy pop world. Unfortunately I could not see them live.
Anyway, keep on Werking folks, good job

| | | MESSAGE: | I saw Kraftwerk April 24th in Montreal. Best night of my life(especially since it was the first and only live show i ever saw in my entire life) Ithanked myself for being a Kraftwerk fan. Being in the first line in front of Hutter was mesmerizing and almost unbelievable for me. And they sang Pocket Calculator in french! Way too cool. Anyone with a chance to see them must take that chance! Anyone know if the show was filmed? Or any other show of the tour too. I just found some small clips, but i want more! |

| | | MESSAGE: | KRAFTWERK - Live at Ricoh Coliseum, Toronto, Canada, Friday, April 23rd, 2004.
I was waiting in my MAN MACHINE clothes from 11:00AM and was obviously the first one there at this North American venue. Apparently, the crew had been setting up since 9:00AM that morning. Soundcheck was supposed to be between 4:00-6:00PM and was supposed to last a little longer than usual, as they hadn't played since April 8th in Germany. At 4:00PM, sure enough they were there doing soundcheck and with material that I hadn’t heard before!!! Because I had been waiting all day, a very kind security guard gave me the chance to step inside the venue and have a listen. It was very drum and bass, very heavy, and only resembled the poor quality soundcheck recording of their Karlsruhe show on October 18, 1997. It wasn't a surprise that I would be the only one, until about 4:30PM when another KRAFTWERK fan, wearing the AUTOBAHN shirt, joined me in line. This fan turned out to be Dave from the only KRAFTWERK cover band, based in Toronto, DIE ROBOTER (check out their official site! http://go.to/dieroboter). We set about trying to see if there was any sign of KRAFTWERK. Sadly, there wasn't at all! It wasn't until about 6:30 - 7:00PM when fans started showing up and waiting in line. KRAFTWERK had not been to Toronto since their 1981 COMPUTERWORLD TOUR. It was obvious that a lot of people had been waiting for this show. Many came from out of town, some from the States and even Japan! > Some people in the audience had seen them in the past. One man claimed to have seen Ralf and Florain perform at a University in Holland in 1972! Another saw KRAFTWERK in Canada in 1975. A diverse audience!!!
> > SETLIST: computer noises for about 5-10 minutes. HEUTE ABEND Vocoder Intro THE MAN MACHINE (animated graphics like back sleeve of the original album) At first, the band appear behind the curtain. Hütter, Schmitz, Hilpert and Schneider were dressing dark grey suits with red shirts and black ties ("The Man-Machine" like clothes). PLANET OF VISIONS (new version of EXPO 2000 with graphics from video, similar as showed at Australian mini-tour) TOUR DE FRANCE 2003 (footage from video, audio similar to Long Distance mix, including “Chrono”) VITAMIN (graphics with animated vitamin pills) TOUR DE FRANCE (old Tour de France footage) AUTOBAHN (record sleeves, footage of traffic and old car advertisements) THE MODEL (footage from the traditional video) NEON LIGHTS/NEOLICHT (footage of neon lights) SELLAFIELD (text on screen) RADIOACTIVITY (radio-activity signs, stars off like the original version and works into the Mix version) TRANS EUROPE EXPRESS/ABZUG/METAL ON METAL (old trains footage)
The KLINGKLANG symbol is shown on the screen before the curtains close.
The curtains open, now Hütter, Schmitz, Hilpert and Schneider ties are fitted with little red lights (LEDs like "The Robots" original video)
NUMBERS (graphics of numbers/lyrics) COMPUTERWORLD (graphics of lyrics) IT´S MORE FUN TO COMPUTER (old computer graphics) HOME COMPUTER (video graphics) POCKET CALCULATOR (animated pocket calculator)
During these encores, the band appeared to loosen up, dance a little, and flash a smile. Ralf, Henning, and Fritz are all dancing and moving their legs. Florian, however, is still throughout the entire show.
* curtains close
* curtains open
THE ROBOTS ("THE MIX" robots style alone on stage, behind the consoles, no clothes, screen shows some footage of the robots video for not even half the song. For some reason, the screen appears black and without projection)
* curtains close
* curtains open, now Hütter, Schmitz, Hilpert and Schneider were dressing the "new" green light-emitting bicycle framed suits under black light. ELEKTRO KARDIOGRAMM (oscillators graphics) AERO DYNAMIK (Remix, bicycle graphics, audio similar to EMA MTV) MUSIQUE NON STOP (footage from the traditional video)
* band leaves one at a time with each doing a little solo, starting with Schneider on the right, Hilpert and Schmitz in the sequence, leaving Hütter on the left to last)
* Florian, the first to go, takes a bow and puts on a little hat!
* Fritz trips but still stands = )
* Hutter says "Goodnight."
* At some point during the performance, a technical glitch was made. Ralf looks at Henning who looks at Fritz, both smiling, as Florain looks to his right at all of them. They seem to laugh it off and continue without any notice at all!
* Something that was rather annoying, was a member of the audience who had brought a laser pointer which caught the attention of Henning. A reminder to all concert attendents, DO NOT BRING THESE AS THEY ARE VERY DISREPECTFUL TO BOTH THE BAND AND AUDIENCE. Thankfully enough, the idiot got the hint, and stopped the pointing laser.
* Please note that this show was recorded officially by KLINGKLANG and also by a few fans in the audience. A DVD is available, filmed from the front of the stage, as well as complete audio of this show. Various recording sources exists for the TORONTO show.

KRAFTWERK - Live at Metropolis, Montreal, Canada, Saturday, April 24th, 2004
Got to the venue at around 5:30 and was 4th in line. Once again, there was no sign of KRAFTWERK or the robots before the show. The man in front of me had seen them play at this venue in 1981 and obviously couldn't wait to see them again. The band were a little more relaxed on their second day in Canada. They recognized us from the previous night and were in a good mood! Ralf was dancing and Florian could be seen smiling. At times, Florian's spotlight was bothering him, which caused him to lean towards his left in order to dodge it. There were more people dressed in the MAN MACHINE clothes than the previous night. One fan even went so far as to design a computer out of a cardboard box and wear it on her head! The sound was much better than in Toronto and the audience was really loud, but I still think the Toronto show was better! The only difference in the set was Ralf continuing POCKET CALCULATOR into MINI CALCULATEUR, sung in obvious French. This went over well with the crowd. This time, as they left the stage, Florian left without his hat. Ralf was last and ended the show on a very good note: "Merci, A bientôt” meaning "Thank you, see you soon!"

* All leave and bow smiling, with Ralf saying, "Merci, A bientôt ("Thank you, see you soon!") It was obvious that KRAFTWERK's return to the stage has been long over-due! Both shows were amazing and left all fans hopeful for at least another tour in the future! it is now easier and less expensive for them to tour, now that they've caught up with the conversion of technology. Thank you KRAFTWERK for an amazing experience! Until next time!
All the best, keep up the good work on the site!!!

| | | MESSAGE: | I flew to Montreal for the April 24th show at Metropolis from Winnipeg, just for this show.
I was very impressed, as I also have waited 20+ years to see this band. The precision, the robots, and the multimedia were astounding. The 2 other non-Kraftwerk fans that came with me were also impressed, as they did not expect what they saw. "Neon Lights" was delightful to hear.
This site is one of the best, as well. |

Bruce,
The red bar in the image of the logo of Autobahn is probably a way for them to show their adhesion for the environment. Autobahn = pollution! |

They did all the great tunes past and present.
I was in the middel of the floor and saw at least 4 people around me with video cameras.
Does Kraftwerk like this stuff or was it bad form? Real fans will buy anything they put out and if they don't release anything then the fans need to go for the bootlegs. |
